Field Hockey Dropped by #8 Williams, 4-0

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College field hockey team dropped its first game of the season to NFHCA #8 Williams College by a 4-0 score in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.

Williams (1-0) was paced by Haley McAuslin, who scored a pair of goals and added an assist. Claire Colvin and Pilar Torres also scored for the nationally ranked Ephs, who outshot Union by a 19-4 margin.

The visitors took control of the game early, with Colvin opening the scoring just 62 seconds in by batting home a blocked shot off a corner attempt. Williams added one more in the first period and then scored twice more in the second to build up an advantage.

Union played a much more even game over the final 30 minutes, holding Williams to no goals and six shots while earning four penalty corner attempts in the fourth quarter. Junior Sophie Brady made four saves in the third frame to keep the visitors off the scoreboard and faced only one shot over the final 15 minutes of play.

Sophomore Marion Stuntz took the loss in goal, allowing four goals and making six saves over the first 30 minutes. Ellie Smith made four stops to earn the win for Williams.

Union will complete its season-opening three-game homestand on Friday with a non-conference matchup against SUNY Morrisville at 4 p.m.
