SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College women's basketball team was outscored by 11 points over the final two periods to suffer a 59-47 defeat at the hands of St. Lawrence University in a Liberty League matchup on Friday night at Viniar Athletic Center.

Jelena Perovic was one of the bright spots offensively for Union (8-6, 5-2 Liberty League) on the night, hitting 10-of-13 shots from the field on the way to 20 points to go with nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Senior
Jenna Forman just missed a double-double with nine points, a game-high 10 rebounds and three steals as well.

Jackie Malley led St. Lawrence (9-4, 4-3 Liberty League) with a game-high 24 points, followed by Mason Baker-Schlendering with 10 points.

Both teams shot 33.3 percent on the evening, but the game was won at the charity stripe and the three-point line. St. Lawrence held a 21-7 edge in visits to the free-throw line, where the Saints outscored the Garnet Chargers by a 16-5 margin. The home team also missed all of its 16 three-point attempts on the evening, while the Saints shot 5-of-22 (22.7 percent) from downtown.

The Garnet Chargers jumped out to an early 8-2 lead and led for most of the opening frame until a 4-0 run gave SLU a 15-14 edge after 10 minutes. SLU led by as many as six points in the second stanza before Union battled back to make it a one-point game (27-26) at the half.

Down by six in the final minute of the third, Perovic hit a layup to get Union within four at 41-37 after three periods, and Union started the fourth with seven straight points to take a 44-41 lead with 7:06 remaining after a Forman three-point play. Emma Riley with 4:17 on the clock, but the team missed their final six shots down the stretch. Baker-Schlendering hit a jumper on the next possession to put the Saints back in front, and SLU outscored Union 12-3 after that, helped by a 7-of-8 effort from the line in the final 1:43 to seal the win.

Union will look to shake off the loss tomorrow, when the team hosts Clarkson University for Alumni Day before another Liberty League matchup beginning at 3 p.m. at Viniar Athletic Center.
