SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union women's hockey team fell to #9/8 Quinnipiac on Friday night at Messa Rink in their first game of 2025.
Senior 
Paige Greco netted the lone goal for the Garnet Chargers and her fourth goal of the season on the powerplay. First-year 
Klara Kenttala and sophomore 
Maddie Leaney were credited with the assists. 
Quinnipiac dominated the first period recording 20 shots to Union's eight and netted five goals in the first 13 minutes of action.
The Bobcats scored their first goal of the night just 1:07 into the opening period when Kahlen Lamarche delivered a backhanded pass to Jenna Donahue who was positioned in the slot, and fired a shot into the right side of the net.
Quinnipiac scored their second and third goals of the game with shots from the blue line that made their way through net-front traffic, allowing the Bobcats to bury rebounds into back of the net.
The Bobcats netted their fourth goal of the game just over 9:30 into the first frame when Kendal Cooper sent a cross ice pass from the bottom of the left circle to Kathryn Stockdale who fired the puck back door into the net.
After trailing 4-0, senior goaltender 
Sophie Matsoukas was pulled and sophomore goaltender 
Monja Wagner stepped in net for her fifth appearance this season.
Wagner concluded the first period with nine saves and only gave up one goal to the Bobcats.
In the second period, the Garnet Chargers controlled much of the period with several excellent opportunities.
Union capitalized first in the period on a powerplay opportunity after Quinnipiac's Zoe Uens received a penalty for cross checking.
After receiving a pass from Kenttala, Greco fired a shot from the top of the left circle through traffic into the right side of the net.
However, the Bobcats were able to net their sixth goal of the game just 1:07 later after Maya Labad capitalized on a rebound from top of the crease from an initial shot taken by Kendal Cooper.
Union ended the period with seven shots while Wagner finished with ten saves.
In the final frame of action, junior goaltender 
Emily Evans made her season debut making seven saves and only giving up two goals to the Bobcats.
Union concluded the game with 27 faceoffs won to Quinnipiac's 23 and successfully killed off three penalties. The Garnet Chargers currently rank 6
th in the nation for penalty kill percentage.
Union is back in action tomorrow as they face #14 Princeton University. Puck drop is set for 3:00 pm.
