ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior goalkeeper
Rachel Berliner recorded 10 saves to backstop the Union College women's soccer team to a 0–0 draw against the Ithaca Bombers on Saturday afternoon at Carp Wood Field.
With the tie, Union (8-4-3) sits tied for third place in the Liberty League standings alongside Skidmore College (6-4-3), as both teams hold a 3-1-2 conference record.
Both teams generated four shots on goal within the opening 16 minutes of the game. Union created several strong looks, including a 15th-minute strike from Alyana Boileau that was narrowly stopped by Ithaca goalkeeper Katrina Varnum.
Midway through the half, Ithaca produced two quality chances, one sailing just over the crossbar, while Berliner made a sliding foot save to preserve the scoreless tie heading into halftime.
Ithaca opened the second half with offensive pressure, testing Berliner twice in the early minutes.
The Bombers' best chance came in the 62nd minute when a high shot was deflected by Berliner over the crossbar. On the corner, Ithaca generated several close-range attempts, including one that rolled dangerously along the goal line before Union's defense cleared it to safety.
Berliner made one final stop with 16 seconds left in regulation to secure the draw.
Union returns to Liberty League action on Wednesday, traveling to Skidmore College for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
