Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A late second-half goal lifted Skidmore College past the Union College women's soccer team, 1-0, on Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.

With the loss, Union (8-5-3, 3-2-2) slips to fourth place in the Liberty League standings, sitting one point above the Rochester Institute of Technology and three points behind Skidmore.

In the first half, the Garnet Chargers outshot the Thoroughbreds 11-7 but were unable to find the back of the net.

Union continued to apply offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting Skidmore 6-2, but could not convert on their chances.

The Thoroughbreds broke through in the 74th minute. Following a Union foul just outside the 18-yard box, Hazel Aiello's free kick found Abby Lewis, who headed the ball into the back of the net for the game-winning goal.

Union fired two more shots before the final whistle but could not find the equalizer.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Berliner played the full game, tallying three saves.

The Garnet Chargers return to action on Saturday, traveling to face No. 22 William Smith. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
