SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College field hockey team fired 22 shots toward the Colby-Sawyer College net and scored the first four goals of the game on the way to a 4-1 victory in the team's regular-season finale on Wednesday evening at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
Union closes the regular season with a 12-7 record and in the process sets a new program standard for wins over a four-year period with 48 victories since 2022. The team also matches program records for wins over a two-year span (26) and three-year span (37) as well.
Four different players found the net for Union on the evening and the Garnet Chargers controlled play for much of the game, posting a 27-11 edge in shots and forcing Colby-Sawyer to make 18 saves.
First-year
Lily Durivage opened the scoring on Union's first shot of the game, intercepting an outlet pass and firing a rocket past goalie Addy Araneo for her third tally of the season midway through the opening frame.
Union added two more goals in the second stanza to increase its advantage. Junior
Amy Vytopilova doubled the lead in the 24th minute, tipping home a pass by sophomore
Rowan Dapson for her seventh goal of the year. Just over three minutes later, first-year
Macy Goodwin record her first collegiate tally when she corralled a rebound on a corner attempt and found the net.
First-year
Ellie Innes added to the Union lead in the 56th minute when her crossing attempt was deflected into the net by a Colby-Sawyer defender, giving her eight goals on the season to rank second on the team.
Colby-Sawyer's Brooke Farquhar broke up the shutout bid with 1:26 remaining, scoring her 24th goal of the season.
Senior
Sophie Brady made four saves in the opening three periods and sophomore
Tess Parker had two saves in the fourth frame for Union, while senior
Kat Bruun had a defensive save. Araneo kept Colby-Sawyer in the game with 15 saves and was helped by three defensive saves.
Based on other results from Wednesday night, Union will be the second seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament and will host third-seeded Ithaca College in the semifinal round on Friday, November 7 at 4 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
