ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team came up just short in a non-conference battle with the University of Rochester, falling by a 4-3 score on Saturday morning at Goergen Athletic Center.
After Rochester started the day with a win at first doubles, Union came back with wins at the bottom two flights to take the opening point. At second doubles, juniors
Claire Langille and
Skylar Semon jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the way to a 6-4 win over Maya Bravo and Sanjana Karnam. Junior
Sydney Alphabet and first-year
Calista Finkelstein gave Union the first point by winning five of the last six games in a 6-3 third-doubles win over Jasmin Toor and Neha Dania.
Junior
Chara Meidani increased the Union lead with a win at second singles, defeating Toor by a 6-1, 6-2 score. After Rochester got on the board at the top flight, sophomore
Luisa Arizpe-Sierra gave the visitors their third point by defeating Katie Yang at third singles, 6-4, 6-3.
The Garnet Chargers were unable to pick up the decisive fourth point, however, as the Yellow Jackets swept matches at fourth, fifth and sixth singles to pull off the comeback victory.
Union will take a few weeks away from competition before heading south for Spring Break beginning on March 23 with matches against Luther College and Hendrix College.
