Gillian Joseph tied for the game-high with four goals and six points while junior
Sydney Widlitz turned aside a season-best 13 shots to lead the Union College women's lacrosse team to a third straight victory, 16-10 over SUNY Brockport on a balmy Tuesday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
The win moves Union to 3-0 on the year, the best start to a season since winning the first eight games of the 2008 campaign. Joseph scored four times on five shots, including a 3-for-3 mark from the eight-meter arc, and added two assists to match her career-high with six points. Senior
Greta Maurer and first-year
Stella Del Papa recorded two goals and two assists apiece, and they were joined with four points by sophomore
Maddy Schiller on three goals and a helper.

Anna Dembowski paced the defensive unit with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Maurer and junior
Maddie Doyle controlled five draws apiece. Widlitz also had her best game of the young season, making 13 saves to secure the victory.
The Garnet Chargers scored three times on just five shots in the opening quarter of play, with Schiller netting a pair and Joseph registering a player-up tally to jump out to a 3-0 lead. After Brockport scored the final goal of the frame, the home team came back with the first three of the second stanza, building up a 6-1 lead on Del Papa's first of the day with 11:40 on the clock. Joseph scored once and assisted on two during the run.
Union outscored Brockport by a goal in both the second and third periods to remain in front, taking a 12-8 lead into the fourth after Joseph's fourth of the afternoon.
The home team was outshot by an 8-7 margin in the final frame, but Widlitz made four huge stops on free-position attempts and five saves overall in the fourth to keep Union ahead. At the other end, the Garnet Chargers scored the first three goals of the period to take its largest lead of the day after a score by junior
Christina Guanci put Union up 15-8 with 4:21 to go. Guanci added one more with 84 seconds left to seal the win.
Union held a slight 31-26 edge in shots on the day, but Brockport was limited to just a 4-of-11 effort from the eight-meter arc, including six Widlitz saves.
Union will look to complete a perfect non-conference slate on Saturday when the Garnet Chargers take on #25 Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Cambridge.
