Union Falls Short in Doubleheader at RPI

Troy, N.Y. - Union dropped both games in Friday afternoon's doubleheader against RPI at Doris Robison Field.

Game 1: RPI 9, Union 1

The Garnet Chargers struck first in the opening inning. Sophomore Sam Rose singled, advanced to second on a passed ball, and moved to third on a groundout. First-year Kyla Springer came through with a double to left center to drive in Rose and give Union a 1–0 lead.

RPI answered in the bottom of the second with four runs, two off RBI singles, and two more on a groundout and a fielder's choice.

After a quiet third inning, the Engineers added three more runs in the fourth. A double, followed by an advance on the throw, drove in two runs, and a groundout brought in the third. RPI capped off the scoring in the sixth with two final runs, one on a wild pitch, and the other on a home run to close out the first game.

Game 2: RPI 4, Union 0

After three scoreless innings, RPI broke through in the fourth, scoring twice on a double and a single. The Engineers added two more runs in the fifth, one on a Union error and the other on a single.

Neither team scored in the final two innings, and RPI secured a 4–0 victory to close out the doubleheader.

Softball returns to action on Sunday for their home opener doubleheader against SUNY Cobleskill at Alexander Field. The first pitch is set for 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, respectively.
