#37 Women's Tennis Knocked Off by #33 Vassar

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The #37 Union College women's tennis team fell to #33 Vassar College in a battle of nationally ranked Liberty League squads on Saturday morning, dropping a 7-0 match at Sportime Schenectady.

The loss brought to an end the program-record-tying six-match winning streak for Union (11-4, 4-1 Liberty League) and dropped the Garnet Chargers into fourth place in the conference standings with three matches remaining.

Vassar (9-5, 5-1 Liberty League) started the day by sweeping the three doubles matches to take an early lead. The Garnet Chargers came closest to a win at the second flight, where juniors Claire Langille and Skylar Semon came up one break short in a 6-4 loss to Iris Li and Macey Dowd.

The road got no easier for Union in singles play, with the Brewers taking all six matches in straight sets. Semon took a team-best eight games from Li in their second-singles matchup, getting to 4-5 on serve in both frames before Li came up with breaks on both occasions to eke out the victory. First-year Calista Finkelstein also came one break short of forcing a third set in her sixth-singles match against Elyse Duley, falling by a 6-2, 7-5 score.

Union will return to action on Wednesday with a rescheduled matchup against #27 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute set for 4 p.m. at the Union Tennis Courts.
