SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team had its 2024-25 season come to a close on Sunday afternoon, as the Garnet Chargers celebrated their seniors before a hard-fought 6-1 loss to #41 Skidmore College at Sportime Schenectady.
Seniors
Ben Jacobs and
Austin Gregory both picked up wins along with first-year
David Wang on the day for Union (5-14, 1-7 Liberty League).
Gregory and Wang earned a nice win for Union at third doubles to start the day, taking down Harrison Gradin and Kyle Lundberg by a 6-4 score. Despite that win, however, Skidmore (10-8, 5-3 Liberty League) won at the top-two flights to earn the opening point.
The Garnet Chargers put up a good fight in singles play, but only one match went the way of the home team. Appropriately it was Jacobs who ended his collegiate career on a high note, battling past Fletcher King for a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win at third singles. Union was close in several other singles matches as well, most notably sophomore
Solen Bellemare's 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) defeat to Nika Mori at fourth singles and first-year
Jesus Sosa's 6-3, 6-4 loss to Griffin Biernat at the second flight.
Sunday's match is the final collegiate contest for Union's three seniors: Jacobs, Gregory and
Seth Prusko.
