MAHWAH, N.J. – The Union College baseball team finished up its non-conference schedule on Tuesday afternoon at Ramapo College of New Jersey, falling by a 12-3 score to the Roadrunners at Jeff Maud Field.
Junior
Cooper Ames and first-year
Dylan Swarts led Union (21-16) with two hits apiece on the day, while junior
Caleb Miller drove in two of the team's three runs. Julian Caruso led Ramapo (27-12) with three hits, while Zack Bailey drove in a game-high four runs for the Roadrunners.
The teams traded two-run frames over the opening two innings, with Miller delivering a two-run, two-out single to score Ames and first-year
AJ Cutler and knot the score. Ramapo went ahead for good with one run in the third, then the Roadrunners added two more in the fourth and put up a five-spot in the fifth to create separation, with the big blow a grand slam by Bailey.
The Garnet Chargers scored once more in the seventh thanks to two walks, a single, and a bases-loaded free pass issued to sophomore
Ryan Kolodziejczyk.
First-year
Ryan Calvario (3-2) took the loss for Union, allowing five runs on six hits in four frames. Senior
Cal Place was the team's top arm out of the bullpen on the day, tossing a pair of scoreless innings.
Union will return to action this weekend, as the team heads to Clarkson University for a best-of-three Liberty League Crossover series. Games one and two will be played beginning at 12 p.m. on Saturday in Potsdam, with game three to follow on Sunday afternoon if necessary.
