GENEVA, N.Y. – The Union College men's tennis team came up a few points short of a comeback on Sunday afternoon against Hobart College, dropping a tough 4-3 decision in Liberty League action at Bristol Fieldhouse.
Union (5-9, 1-2 Liberty League) earned victories in the bottom three singles flights, but the Garnet Chargers came up just short in doubles play and also had a three-setter go against them.
The first point of the day came down to a second-doubles tiebreaker, with the Hobart tandem of Rahul Vallabhajosula and Hyat Oyer eking out a 7-6 (7-5) victory over senior

David Wang earned the team's only doubles win of the day, defeating Troy Steiner and Kristen Weigt by a 6-2 score.
Hobart (7-7, 2-1 Liberty League) moved into a strong position by taking wins at first and third singles before first-year
Arhan Gupta kept the visitors alive with a 6-3, 6-2 win at fifth singles over Steiner. First-year
Jesus Sosa came back from a love set to take the second from Nicholas Fischer, 6-3, in their second-singles matchup, but Sosa came up one game short in the third to fall 6-4 and seal the win for the Statesmen.
Sophomore
Solen Bellemare capped a comeback of his own with a fourth-singles win over Vallabhajosula, rebounding from a 1-6 first set to take the next two, 6-2 and 7-5, and earn his team-leading 12th singles victory of the season.
Vivaan Gupta also fought back to force a third set supertiebreaker in his sixth-singles matchup against Tarang Malhotra, battling to the end to finish off a hard-fought 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) victory. The first-year fought off four match points down 9-5 in the breaker as he won the final six points to pull out the comeback win.
Union will return to action on Saturday with a Liberty League matchup at St. Lawrence University beginning at 2 p.m.
