Softball Closes Season with Senior Day Split Versus Rochester

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Softball celebrated their five seniors Nahnny Sobetzko, Tatum Perkins, Melody Kappel, Autumn Duff, and Riley Callahan as Union closed out the season with a Senior Day doubleheader split against the University of Rochester at Alexander Field on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1: UNION 2, ROCHESTER 1

First-year Carra Cleaves delivered another solid performance on the mound striking out six and allowing just six hits and one earned run. Sophomore Sam Rose went 1-for-3 at the plate, driving in both Union runs.

After two quiet innings, Rochester opened the scoring in the third on a wild pitch. The Garnet Chargers responded in the fifth as Rose singled to right-center to bring home senior Nahnny Sobetzko and first-year Gianna Guastaferro

Cleaves and the defense held strong, retiring the final six batters in the sixth and seventh to seal the 2-1 victory.

GAME 2: ROCHESTER 27 UNION 2

Rochester jumped out early, scoring three runs on three singles in the first inning. Union responded in the bottom half with a walk by first-year Kyla Springer to score in Rose, and a sacrifice fly by junior Ellie Wintringer to bring home senior Riley Callahan

However, heavy rain in the second inning made it challenging for Union to pitch, resulting in Rochester scoring 11 runs to take control of the game.

After a scoreless top of the third, the game was delayed and resumed at Skidmore College's Wagner Park at 4:30 in the afternoon.

The Yellowjackets carried their offensive momentum in the second half of the game driving in nine runs in the fourth inning followed by four runs in the fifth to secure the 27-2 victory over the Garnet Chargers.
