SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Union College men's soccer team fell 3-1 to SUNY Oneonta in a non-conference season opener match-up Friday night at College Park Field.
Oneonta applied early offensive pressure, recording seven shots in the first half but Union senior goalkeeper Jacob Perry came up big with two key saves to keep the game tied at 0.
Union found their offensive momentum in the second half, creating two quality scoring chances early at the 38th and 40th minutes. The Garnet Chargers then broke through at the 60th minute mark when a free kick from junior Alex Borkland found sophomore Julian Badger at the back post, and junior Declan Crowley was able to knock the ball in.
However, Oneonta responded, scoring three unanswered goals in quick succession to take control and secure the 3-1 win over Union.
Perry finished the game with four saves while Oneonta's goalkeeper, James Cintron, finished with two.
Union returns to non-conference action Tuesday when they travel to SUNY New Paltz. Kick off is set for 5:30 pm.
