Second-Period Surge Lifts #7 Quinnipiac Past Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - A three-goal second period powered Quinnipiac to a 5–1 victory over Union on Saturday afternoon at M&T Bank Center.

Sophomore Hayley Kelleher scored her first collegiate goal, accounting for the Garnet Chargers' lone tally of the afternoon. The goal was unassisted.

Quinnipiac opened the scoring midway through the first period as Emerson Jarvis skated into the slot and fired a shot past the Union goaltender to give the Bobcats a 1–0 lead.

The Bobcats earned a five-minute major power play with 4:30 remaining in the first frame but were unable to capitalize.

The Garnet Chargers killed off the remainder of the major penalty to begin the second.

However, a Union minor penalty six minutes later allowed Quinnipiac to begin its scoring spree. Jarvis scored her second goal of the game, tipping the puck into the net.

Quinnipiac then followed up with two more goals just two-and-a-half minutes apart. Taylor Brueske scored on another tip-in, and Zoe Uens followed with a low shot into the left side of the net to extend the Bobcats' lead to 4–0.

Kelleher capped the scoring in the second period. She collected the puck along the boards, deked a Quinnipiac defender in the high slot, and fired a shot into the low right side of the net.

Union opened the third period on the power play but were unable to convert.

Jarvis completed her hat trick with six minutes remaining in regulation, scoring Quinnipiac's fifth and final goal from the bottom of the left circle.

Union killed off another penalty then earned a five-minute major power play of its own. The Garnet Chargers pulled first-year goaltender Emma Rhéaume to skate six-on-four in search of additional offense but came up empty.

The teams skated four-on-four to close out the game after Union took one final penalty, but neither side capitalized. Rhéaume finished the game with 39 saves.

Women's Hockey returns to action next weekend traveling to the north country to face St. Lawrence University and #11 Clarkson University. Puck drop against the Saints is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Friday night followed by a 3:00 p.m. puck drop against the Golden Knights on Saturday afternoon.
