ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team extended its shutout streak to five straight matches, but the Garnet Chargers could not find the net at the other end as Union settled for a scoreless draw with Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon at Judson Stadium.
The draw keeps Union (4-3-5, 2-0-3 Liberty League) unbeaten in conference play with four matches remaining, as the Garnet Chargers sit third in the Liberty League standings with nine points through five matches, two points ahead of RIT (4-4-3, 2-2-1 Liberty League) in a tie for fourth.
The tie extends the team's scoreless streak to 526:28, its longest stretch of scoreless play since starting the 2022 season with 664:47 of shutout action.
While the defense was strong, Union did not generate many good offensive chances on the afternoon, with senior
Hannah Sams having the team's lone shot on goal in the 24th minute. Senior
Maya Koster made three saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless, including a fingertip save in the 34th minute on a shot by Amerie Mills.
Koster added three more saves in the second half to preserve the shutout, finishing the afternoon with six saves to extend her personal scoreless streak to 481:28. With her sixth shutout of the season and 12th of her career, the senior moves into a tie for seventh place on the school's career shutouts list and a tie for 10th on the single-season clean-sheet register.
Union will return home for the start of a four-game homestand on Tuesday, as the team finishes off its non-conference schedule with a 4 p.m. match against Hamilton College.
