Women's Hockey Falls to #7/6 Princeton in Overtime

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's hockey team battled No. 7/6 Princeton on Saturday afternoon, pushing the game to overtime before falling 2-1 to the Tigers. Sophomore  Megan Duplantie scored Union's lone goal on the power play, with assists from junior Klara Kenttälä and senior Quinn Dunkle.

Princeton opened the scoring just 10 seconds into the first period, as Chloe Brinson found the back of the net. The Garnet Chargers responded late in the period when Duplantie capitalized on the power play at the 17:58 mark. Kenttälä and Dunkle picked up the assists to even the score at 1-1 heading into the second period.

Both teams continued to battle through the middle frame, looking for the go-ahead goal. Union worked to generate offensive pressure while staying strong defensively against the Tigers. Neither team was able to break the tie, sending the game into the third period knotted at 1-1.

The Garnet Chargers  continued to fight in the final frame, looking to pull ahead against Princeton. With neither team able to find the go-ahead goal in regulation, the game headed to overtime. Senior goaltender Monja Wagner finished the afternoon with 32 saves on 34 shots, making several key stops to keep the Garnet Chargers in the game against the Tigers. Princeton ultimately found the game-winner in overtime, with Brinson scoring her second goal of the afternoon to secure the 2-1 victory for the Tigers.

The Garnet Chargers will hit the road next weekend for a pair of afternoon matchups, taking on No. 12/13 Cornell in Ithaca, N.Y., on Friday, October 30, with a 3 p.m. puck drop. Then travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to face No. 8 Colgate on Saturday, October 31, at 3 p.m.
