Men's Soccer Knocks Off #4 St. Lawrence in Season Finale

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College men's soccer team closed out the 2026 season with one of its best efforts of the year, dealing #4 St. Lawrence University its first defeat of the season by a 3-0 score on Saturday afternoon at College Park Field.

The win moved Union (9-8-2, 3-5-1 Liberty League) into seventh place in the conference standings. The Garnet Chargers needed three other results today to go their way to sneak into the postseason; while two did go Union's way, Ithaca College scored a penalty kick goal in the 75th minute to defeat Bard College and snatch the sixth spot.

The Garnet Chargers got goals from sophomore Kofi Sarfoh and first-years Joseph Carofano and Luke Danile on the afternoon, as Union put all three of its on-target shots into the back of the net in the impressive victory.

Sarfoh struck first from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after SLU keeper Parker Sinclair pushed over senior Luke Ingber in the box. The sophomore picked the top corner for his 10th goal of the season, making him Union's first double-digit goal scorer since Salvador Lopez Jr. '20 netted 10 as a senior in 2019.

The lead doubled just over eight minutes later on a nice individual effort from Carofano, who dribbled along the top of the box before finding the top-left corner for his third goal of the season.

The Union defensive unit limited St. Lawrence (10-1-4, 5-1-3 Liberty League) to just three shots and only one on-target attempt in the opening half, as the home team went into halftime with a two-goal edge.

Danile put the exclamation point on the victory in the 74th minute, burying a Sarfoh feed from right in front of the net for his third goal of the year.

The Saints took seven shots in the second half in an attempt to get back into the game, but junior Dmitri Wild-Arons stopped the lone on-target shot he saw to preserve his second shutout of the season and third of his career.

Union's nine wins this season are the most for the program since 2019 and give Union back-to-back seasons above .500 for the first time since 2016-17.
