TROY, N.Y. - Union College student-athletes collected four weekly honors from the Liberty League and had six more named to the honor roll for the week ending Sunday, October 4.
Field Hockey Performer of the Week: Maddie Greco
Greco scored four goals and added two assists for a team-leading 10 points in two games this weekend as part of Union's 3-0 week. The senior played a role in five of the team's six goals in a wild 6-5 (OT) win at Skidmore on Friday, scoring three times - including the game-tying goal with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation - and assisting on a pair, including the overtime game-winner. She added the eventual game-winning goal in Sunday's 3-1 win over St. Lawrence, tipping home a shot just 75 seconds into the game.
Football Defensive Performer of the Week: Caleb Altidor
Altidor led Union with four solo tackles and had five tackles overall in the team's 49-7 win at St. Lawrence on Friday night. The sophomore also led the team with two sacks totaling 21 yards lost, including one strip-sack that was picked up and returned to plus territory.
Field Hockey Rookie of the Week: Caroline Ranucci
Ranucci had a huge weekend in leading Union to a pair of Liberty League victories as part of a 3-0 week, scoring three goals and adding three assists for nine points. The first-year had a pair of goals and added an assist in Friday's overtime win at Skidmore, scoring one of the team's three fourth-quarter tallies and then netting the game-winning goal 37 seconds into overtime. She then played a role in all three Union goals on Sunday against St. Lawrence, assisting on the eventual game-winner 75 seconds into the game before scoring an insurance goal in the second quarter and assisting on the game-clincher in the final minutes.
Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week: Reilly Fowles and
Riichi Nagatake
Fowles and Nagatake went 2-0 at third doubles to help Union to a Garnet Cup title on Saturday. The pair started their day with a 6-3 win to clinch the doubles point in a victory over Farmingdale State, and then provided the first of two doubles wins to earn the opening point in a 6-1 win over Manhattanville later in the day.

Field Hockey: Ellie Skolnekovich
Skolnekovich earned the first two wins of her career last week, making seven saves in 99:04 of action over two games. The first-year came on in relief at Skidmore and made three saves over the final 39:04 to help secure a 6-5 (OT) comeback win over the Thoroughbreds on Friday, then made four stops on Sunday in her first collegiate start to defeat St. Lawrence by a 3-1 score.
Football: Luke Sheehan
Sheehan completed 14-of-20 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for a team-best 62 yards and a score in Friday's 49-7 win over St. Lawrence. The junior averaged 16.5 yards per completion and 8.9 yards per rush on the evening, with all three touchdown passes going for at least 23 yards.
Women's Soccer: Maya Koster and
Hannah Sams
Sams and Koster helped Union at both ends of the field as part of a 2-0 week for the Garnet Chargers. Sams helped to push the pace in the midfield and took a team-high 10 shots, including scoring the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute of a key 1-0 win at Rensselaer on Saturday. Koster did not give up a goal in 135:00 of action over the two outings, making three saves to help the squad extend its shutout streak to over 346 minutes spanning three-plus matches. Union outshot their opponents by a 41-10 margin over the four halves in the wins over Bard (2-0) and RPI.
Men's Tennis: Shreyas Kode
Kode went 2-0 in fourth-singles action to help Union to a Garnet Cup title on Saturday. The senior provided the clinching point with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the team's win over Farmingdale State to reach the final, then moved the team to within one point of a victory with a 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) triumph in the final against Manhattanville.
Women's Volleyball: Kayla Martinez Cartagena
Martinez Cartagena averaged 2.91 kills per set as Union battled to a 2-1 record at home this weekend in non-conference play. She recorded 12 kills in a five-set loss to Middlebury on Wednesday as the Garnet Chargers came up just short of earning their first win over the Panthers since 2016. On Saturday, she totaled 20 more kills as Union swept SUNY New Paltz and Plattsburgh State. She also added two service aces per match, had a pair of block assists, and had 22 digs (2.00 d/s) on the weekend. The junior from Coamo, Puerto Rico was also the second-most targeted player on her squad during the serve receive, converting on 36 of her reception attempts with only one reception error.
