ORLANDO, Fla. – The Union College men's tennis team swept doubles play to earn the opening point and then captured three of the first four singles points to post a 4-3 non-conference victory over St. Lawrence University on Tuesday evening at the USTA National Campus.

Jesus Sosa and first-year
Simon Philip all posted two wins apiece for Union (6-4) on the evening, and all six players played a role in at least one victory.
Playing their conference opponent in a non-conference setting on Spring Break, the Garnet Chargers came out strong on Tuesday by winning six of the first seven matches to clinch the win. Gupta and Sosa started off doubles play with a 6-3 win at the top flight, followed soon after by another 6-3 win for junior

Solen Bellemare joined Philip to complete the doubles sweep with a hard-fought 7-6 third-flight victory.
Arhan Gupta increased Union's lead to 2-0 with a fourth-singles victory over Charles Schepens, posting a 6-1, 3-6, (10-7) win. After St. Lawrence (2-6) got one back with a supertiebreaker win at sixth singles, Philip moved the Garnet Chargers one match closer to a win with a 6-3, 7-5 fifth-singles triumph over Bennett Stout. Sosa then closed out the match in a second-set tiebreaker, narrowing knocking off Jake David by a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) score.
Union will close out its Spring Break schedule tomorrow with a 2:30 p.m. match against Eckerd College.
