SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Junior
Jack Plesser added another prestigious honor to an incredible third season with the Union College men's basketball team by being named to the CSC Academic All-America® Men's Basketball first team, College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Plesser is one of only 15 student-athletes in Division III to be recognized as a Men's Basketball Academic All-America and one of just five to receive first-team laurels. He is the third Union men's basketball player to earn the national athletic and academic recognition and the first in over half a century, joining Geoff Walker '73 (third team in 1973) and Jim Tedisco '72 HOF '02 (first team in 1970).
Plesser put together a superlative junior campaign for the Garnet Chargers, earning NABC All-America second-team laurels to go with Jostens Trophy finalist and Liberty League Player of the Year honors as well as D3hoops.com All-Region, NABC All-District, and All-ECAC first-team selections. Plesser averaged 22.6 points per game to lead the Liberty League in scoring by 3.5 ppg and finished 23rd in Division III in scoring average. He also ranked 25th in the country in field goals made (214) thanks to a conference-best 55.3 percent (214 of 387) field-goal percentage. The junior also ended the year second among conference players in both rebounding (7.6 rpg) and blocks (37), as well as third in free-throw percentage (76.2 percent). On the season, Plesser scored double figures in 24 of 25 games, highlighted by six games with 30+ points and 15 games with 20 or more points to go along with seven double-doubles.
The Fairfield, Conn., native ended the year sixth on Union's all-time single-season scoring list with 566 points and his 22.6 ppg average is fifth-best ever by a Union player. He also tied for fourth in single-season field goals (214) and sixth in free throws (128) as well.
In addition to his success on the court, Plesser boasted a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average at the end of the fall trimester as an economics major and member of the Scholar's Program. A CSC Academic All-District selection in both of the last two years, Plesser also is a two-time Liberty League All-Academic Team honoree and was named Union's Sophomore Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2025.
Plesser's honor makes him just the 38th Academic All-America honoree overall in Union history and the second to earn first-team laurels as a junior, joining Tom Anacker '72 of the football team in 1970-71.
