SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Five members of the Union College men's lacrosse team were recognized for their strong seasons with All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and
USA Lacrosse Magazine.
Seniors
John Sula and
Walker Popko were honored by both organizations, while junior
Jack Lucey was selected to the USILA teams and both junior
Nick Lynch and sophomore
Luke Foster were picked by
USA Lacrosse Magazine.
Sula was named to USILA All-America second team, recognizing him as the second-best long-stick midfielder in Division III, in addition to
USA Lacrosse Magazine honorable mention. The senior grabbed a career-high 92 ground balls and caused 26 turnovers in his final season, ranking second in the Liberty League and 28th in Division III in ground balls among non-FOGOs, while setting a new program record for ground balls in a season by a non-faceoff specialist. Sula also became more involved in the offense in his final season, scoring once and assisting on 11 goals for a career-high 12 points. A three-time All-American from both organizations and three-time All-Liberty League first-team pick, Sula will graduate fourth in program history in ground balls (241) and third in caused turnovers (66) all-time at Union.
Popko earned honorable mention from both the USILA and
USA Lacrosse Magazine after an excellent senior season for the Garnet Chargers, scoring 49 goals with 18 assists for 67 points as a senior to earn All-Liberty League second-team honors. He finished the conference tournament first in the Liberty League in goals and third in points, and ended the year fourth on Union's single-season goal scoring list in 2026. In two seasons in Schenectady, Popko scored 83 goals with 26 assists for 109 points, becoming the 33rd player in program history to record 100 career points in garnet.
Lucey joined Popko in earning USILA honorable mention after a first-team All-Liberty League campaign at short-stick midfield in 2026. The junior set new career highs with 41 ground balls and 17 caused turnovers in 2026 as a key member of the faceoff unit along with Sula, helping Union rank fourth in the conference in faceoff percentage. He will enter this senior year with 95 ground balls and 39 caused turnovers to his credit, in addition to three goals and seven assists.
Lynch earned preseason and postseason All-America honorable mention from
USA Lacrosse Magazine in his second season as a starter in goal for Union. The junior led the Liberty League in saves with 246 and ranked second in saves per game (12.30), while also ranking third in save percentage (.554) and fifth in goals against average (10.45). His 246 saves this season rank third in the school single-season list and 13th in Division III this season, and his 457 career saves through three seasons are ninth-most in program history.
Foster had a solid season at the forefront of the Union defensive unit, registering a team-leading 28 caused turnovers to rank sixth in the Liberty League while also grabbing 46 ground balls, third-best on the team and first among Union defenders. He had at least one grounder and one caused turnover in each of the season's final 10 games, as the Garnet Chargers closed the year with seven wins in their last 10 contests.
Three of Union's All-Americans are slated to be back as Union looks to continue its late-season momentum into the 2027 campaign.
