SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Union College women's tennis team dropped a combined five games over nine matches as the Garnet Chargers started off Liberty League play with a 9-0 victory over Bard College on Wednesday evening at the Union Tennis Courts.
Seven different players recorded at least one win for Union (1-1, 1-0 Liberty League), including five players earning wins in both singles and doubles action. Three players – sophomore
Jenny Park and first-years
Loden Bradstreet and
Maddy Alecia – finished the day without losing a game in either singles or doubles play.
Starting the day with singles, Union saw four matches finish in less than half an hour as the home team clinched the win quickly. Park was the first to finish in her 6-0, 6-0 third-singles win over Lola Greene. The next three matches all finished within seconds of each other, as Bradstreet (first singles), Alecia (fourth singles) and classmate
Megan Woods (sixth singles) completed double-bagel wins as well.
Fellow first-years
Ava Boncordo and
Violet Tran finished off the singles sweep soon after, with Boncordo needing just one extra game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the second flight and Tran posting a 6-3, 6-1 fifth-singles victory.
With the match already clinched, Union made quick work of doubles play, with all three flights finishing in the minimum six games. Boncordo and Park started off with a win at second doubles, followed by a clinching win for Tran and junior
Scarlet Carrara at the third flight. Alecia and Bradstreet ended the match soon after with another sweep in top-flight action.
Union will wrap up its fall schedule next weekend at the ITA Northeast Regionals, held at Skidmore College on October 1-4.
