GREENWICH, N.Y. – First-year
Brody Richardson broke the program 8K record by one-tenth of a second to lead the Union College men's cross country team to a seventh-place finish at the Fairgrounds Showdown, hosted by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday at the Washington County Fairgrounds.
Union finished the day with 209 points, good for a seventh-place finish ahead of Oswego State (232 points) in eighth and behind St. Lawrence University (190 points) in sixth. SUNY Geneseo earned five of the top seven finishes to earn a 17-point win over the host Engineers.
Richardson placed 15th in the field of 216 runners and second among all first-years in the field by finishing the 8K course in 24:37.4, a time that places him just one-tenth of a second ahead of the previous program standard set by Ryan Russell '25 in 2024. The first-year slowly increased his standing over the course of the race, moving from 33rd after the first 1000 meters to 25th at the 2K mark, then up to 18th with 3K left and incrementally moving closer to the front of the pack after that.
Fellow first-year
Alex Bonnette also had a good race for Union, finishing just outside the top-third with a time of 26:08.9 that placed him 77th overall. Sophomore
Cole Lewek and senior
Bretton Garrick both earned top-100 finishes as well, with Lewek taking 92nd in 26:26.2 and Garrick crossing the line with a time of 26:30.7 to place 97th.
Senior
Ben Pistiner was the team's fifth and final scorer with a 109th-place time of 26:57.4, followed close behind by first-year
Ryan Harrow in 110th (26:58.0) and senior
Will Bonnette in 111th (26:58.1).
Union will be back on the course next Saturday at the Keene State Invitational.
