SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Union College men's soccer team dropped its first Liberty League matchup of the season on Tuesday evening, falling by a 3-2 score to local rival Skidmore College at Wachenheim Field.

Kofi Sarfoh scored for Union (6-4-1, 1-1-0 Liberty League), who outshot Skidmore (3-4-2, 1-1-0 Liberty League) by a 12-9 margin on the evening and put seven shots on goal to Skidmore's five.
The match started off strongly for the Garnet Chargers, who got the first goal of the night in the 12th minute when Kelley put home a feed by first-year
Joseph Carofano for his third goal of the year. But the Thoroughbreds had a response, getting two goals from Colin Goodhines in less than seven minutes to turn a one-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage.
Union continued to press in the second half, and eventually got back to even in the 64th minute when Sarfoh corralled the rebound of a shot by sophomore
Matt Guiliano and potted his team-leading ninth goal of the season. The deadlock lasted less than seven minutes, however, as Skidmore scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 70:03 mark to take back the lead for good.
The visitors had two more on-target shots after the goal, but could not find the equalizer. First-year
Michael Karcher made two saves for the visitors, while Rowan McLear had five saves to earn the win for Skidmore.
Union will return to action on Saturday with a 2 p.m. match against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at College Park Field.
