ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Union College women's soccer team got a pair of first-half goals from junior
Addison MacDonald and sophomore
Lucy Riggs and allowed only one shot on goal over the course of 90 minutes in picking up a 2-0 Liberty League victory over Bard College on Tuesday evening at Ferrari Soccer and Lacrosse Complex.
Union (3-3-3, 1-0-1 Liberty League) controlled play from the outset against Bard (1-5-1, 0-3-0 Liberty League), posting a 26-3 edge in shots and conceding only one corner kick.
The Garnet Chargers outshot the Raptors 17-0 in the opening half, keeping complete control of the possession. The score remained deadlocked until the 24th minute after a corner kick by senior
Hannah Sams. First-year
Maya Atwood got the first touch in the box and the ball bounced around until it found the foot of MacDonald, who tapped it home at the right post in the 24th minute for her second goal of the year and Atwood's first collegiate point.
The visitors struck again with less than six minutes remaining in the first half, getting a goal from Riggs to double their lead. After a long ball into the box, first-year
Talia Harris cut the ball back and sent it toward the penalty spot, where senior
Delaney McNinch got a touch to send the ball to the feet of Riggs for a one-touch putaway. The assist was the first collegiate point for Harris.
Union took nine shots to Bard's three in the second half, as the Garnet Chargers finished off the victory.
Senior
Maya Koster played the first 45 minutes in goal to pick up the win, while junior
Brooke Rosenshine made one save over the final 45 minutes.
Union will be back on the field on Saturday, when the Garnet Chargers travel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a 4 p.m. match.
