Women's Soccer Falls on the Road to Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Union College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Babson College at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday afternoon.

Emma Radley netted the fixture's lone goal in the 40th minute, and the Beavers (1-1) held Union (1-1) to just one shot on goal in the second half to secure their first-ever victory over the Garnet Chargers.

Four minutes prior to the Beavers' breakthrough goal, Union threatened to take the early lead with back-to-back shots from senior Taylor Bovardi and sophomore Kayla Coviello. The Garnet Chargers earned their second corner of the match following Coviello's attempt, which caromed off the crossbar and bounded nearly straight down, but did not convert. Radley's first-half goal represented the only shot on target from either side in the opening 45.

Junior Brooke Rosenshine took over in goal for senior Maya Koster in the second half. Rosenshine kept Union within striking distance by saving a pair of shots, also earning the first collegiate saves of her career.

Union lined up for seven shots in the final 45 minutes looking for an equalizer, but only senior Delaney McNinch's attempt in the 61st minute was on frame.

Bovardi led Union's starting 11 with two shots, and Coviello and her classmate Dakota Herbert also fired two shots each as reserves.

Union will play its first match of the year in Schenectady on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 5 p.m. against #9 Middlebury.
