SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Sophomore
Kofi Sarfoh scored a pair of goals and six different players recorded their first collegiate points as the Union College men's soccer team rolled to a 5-0 victory over Westfield State University in non-conference action on a sunny Sunday afternoon at College Park Field.
Sarfoh scored twice in the span of 5:30 in the second half for his first career multi-goal game, and his three goals through three games already matches his offensive output from his rookie season of 2025. In addition to Sarfoh's brace, sophomore

Union (2-1) pressured the Westfield State (0-3) defense all match long, recording a 21-5 advantage and shots and sending a multitude of probing balls that resulted in several good scoring opportunities even with 18 offsides calls going against them. The five-goal margin marked Union's most goals scored in a game and the largest margin of shutout victory over an NCAA squad since a 5-0 win Elmira College on October 3, 2023.
Blake opened the scoring in the 37th minute with the first goal of his collegiate career. Akinc sent a ball into the box where it found the head of Blake, who managed to flick it off the bottom of the crossbar and in past the outstretched Owls keeper.
Going into halftime with a one-goal edge despite an 11-3 advantage in shots, Union turned up the pressure even more in the second half and scored four times on 10 attempts.
Some nice passing resulted in the team's second goal, as junior
Logan Weitzmann sent a ball to the far endline where Dolores was there to push it back into the middle of the box for Sarfoh's finish in the 58th minute. Souza sprung Sarfoh for his second goal less than six minutes later, with the sophomore taking three touches after a nice through ball before picking the left corner.
A set piece delivered Union's fourth goal of the afternoon in the 76th minute, when Souza served up a free kick that was flicked on by Hefferon to the waiting foot of Danile for a tap-in tally. Charraz finished off the scoring less than a minute later, when he followed up his own shot that caromed off the crossbar and deposited the rebound at the 76:47 mark.
First-year
Michael Karcher picked up a second straight win for Union, making three saves over the first 76:47 of action before senior
Nate Bott came on to finish off the shutout.
The Garnet Chargers will continue their four-match homestand on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. kickoff against SUNY Poly at College Park Field.
