Academic All-Americans

College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), began the Academic All-America® program in the 1950's, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports and across all divisions with these elite Academic All-America honors.

Student-athletes are nominated by current CSC members. Qualified members of the Academic All-District first team move onto the national Academic All-America ballot, where first-team, second-team and third-team Academic All-Americans are selected from regions throughout the country.

In 2023, Karson Saunders '23 of the softball team became the first Union student-athlete ever to earn Academic All-America Team Member of the Year honors, recognizing her as the top student-athlete in all of Division III softball for the 2023 season.

Erika Eisenhut '06 is Union College's only three-time Academic All-American and is one of the few players in NCAA history to earn Academic All-America honors in three different sports (women's soccer, women's basketball and softball) in the same academic year.  Five Union athletes join Eisenhut as multiple Academic All-America honorees: Tom Anacker '72 (football), Tyler Heck '13 (baseball), Troy Grosenick '13 (men's hockey), Ryan Ehrets '21 (football) and Saunders.

Fourteen different Union programs have had student-athletes named Academic All-America since the school's first honoree in 1970. The football team leads all programs with 13 selections, followed by the men's hockey team with six and the softball and men's lacrosse teams with four each.
