Hamilton vs. Wells

SCHENECTADY, NY –
In the first game of the 2012 Sig Makofski Tournament, Hamilton (10-2) earned  69-52 win over Wells College (4-5) at the Viniar Athletic Center on the campus of Union College.

Forwards Pat Sullivan (Madison, NJ) and Ken Click (Stony Point, NY) each had 16 points to lead Hamilton, while Wells guard Dave Foltz (Auburn, NY) led all scorers with 17 points.

Hamilton outrebounded Wells 47-27 for the game as freshman forward Peter Kazickas (Amagansett, NY) and sophomore guard Matt Dean (Franklin, MA) each had eight rebounds to lead the Continentals. Wells forward Tyler Walker (Spencer, NY ) led the Express with five rebounds.

Wells trailed 41-23 at the half, but used a 12-2 run to cut the Continentals lead to six with 10:16 remaining in the second half, capped off by a three-point play by Darnell McDuffy (Rochester, NY). Foltz had six points to lead Wells during the run.

But Hamilton answered with an 8-0 run to push their lead out to double digits for good. Two free throws by Greg Newton (Barrington, RI), a three-pointer by Ephraim McDowell (Boston, MA), a fast break layup by Sullivan, and a free throw by

Kazickas gave the Continentals a 57-44 lead with 7:40 to play in regulation. Wells would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

The Continentals ran out to a 26-11 lead in the opening 12:13 of the first half, keyed by a 17-4 run midway through the first half. Matt Dean’s (Franklin, MA) three-pointer capped off the run with 7:47 to play in the first half, as the Continentals upped their lead to 41-23 by halftime.

Hamilton will take on the winner of Roger Williams vs. Union tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. in the championship game, while Wells will face the loser of that contest in the consolation game at 6:00 p.m.
