The 40th Anniversary of Title IX

the 40th Anniversary of the landmark legislation
so commonly known as "Title IX."

It’s just 37 words,
37 plain and grammatically clunky words
hiding inside a large education bill,
37 words that didn’t seem to be a big deal at the time,
37 words that would change everything:

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from
participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
