John Flete and Kevin Furlong scored 20 points each and Will Green tallied 16 with 11 rebounds to lead FDU Florham to a 74-63 victory over Trinity (CT) in the first game of the Sig Makofski Invitational Men’s Basketball Tournament at Union College’s Viniar Athletic Center Saturday night.

The Devils improved to 2-3 on the season while the Bantams fell to 3-2. FDU Florham faces host Union Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Championship Game, while the Consolation Game will feature Trinity against SUNY Cobleskill.

Trevor Sykes scored 12 with six boards and Furlong added eight rebounds for the Devils, who shot 44% for the night and forced 21 turnovers. FDU also shot 84% from the line, making 16 of 19 shots.

Jaquann Starks led Trinity with 15 points and also joined Edward Ogundeko with seven rebounds. Ogundeko had 11 points and George Papdeas pulled down nine rebounds. Trinity had a 40-32 rebounding advantage and shot 43% for the night.

The Devils had a two point lead at halftime, 36-34. The game featured a 12th tie of the contest, 56-56 with 6:46 left to play in the second staff. FDU went on a 12-3 run in the next 5:16 featuring six points from Flete. FDU made six free throws in the final 31 seconds to pull away and led by as many as 13 with 12 seconds left, 74-61.
