Vassar 8, St. Lawrence 6
LOUDONVILLE, NY -- Senior outfielder Sean Morash had four RBIs and was one of three players with three hits to lead Vassar to an 8-6 victory over St. Lawrence in the 2013 Liberty League Baseball Championship Tournament at Siena Field Friday. The Brewers improved to 18-19-1 and will play either RPI or Union at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday. The Saints finished the season at 20-17.
Brett Zaziski and Nick Johnson also had three hits for the Brewers, who had 15 hits for the contest. Johnson had two RBIs and reliever Zander Mrlik improved to 6-1. He gave up just two hits while striking out four in five shutout innings of work.
Kevin Prindle and Ethan Braddock had two hits each for the Saints.
Vassar, the #4 seed, scored four in the first highlighted by a three run homer by Morash after an RBI single by Johnson. But the Saints made it 4-3 in the bottom of the third featuring an RBI single by Prindle. In the fourth Vassar made it 5-3 with an RBI single by Kyle Casey, and added a sixth run in the fifth with an RBI fielder's choice by Dave Robbins.
The Saints scored three in the fifth with RBI singles by Ethan Braddock and Kiefer O'Connor as well as a run scoring fielder's choice by Bryan Palertmo, and it was tied at 6-6. But the Brewers took the lead in the seventh, as Zazisky had a one out double to left. He then scored on a single to right center by Johnson.
Vassar added the insurance run in the top of the ninth as Zazisky led off the inning with a double and scored two batters later on an RBI single by Morash.
