2021 Summer Camp/Clinic FAQs

What safety protocols will be in place for camps?

All participants, counselors, coaches and staff are required to follow fundamental public health guidance to mitigate transmission of COVID-19; that includes: wearing face coverings for indoor activities if not fully vaccinated, practicing good hand & respiratory hygiene and conducting a daily temperature check.

All participants share exceptional responsibility for following Union’s Summer Camps / Programs policy to ensure the viability of the 2021 summer programming.

In addition, campers will be grouped in pods according to age and experience level, and the campers will remain with this pod throughout the week, including during lunch.

Will campers need to provide a negative COVID-19 test before attending camp?
Camp attendees will not be required to provide a negative COVID test. They will be required to have a daily temperature check prior to each day of camp.

What are the vaccination protocols for coaches, counselors and staff?
Coaches, counselors and staff should be fully vaccinated and must provide a copy of their CDC vaccination card. If a Staff member is not fully vaccinated, they will follow guidelines for masking and social distancing.

Will there be a daily health screening requirement?
Daily temperature checks will be conducted each day, prior to the start of the camp program. In addition, Staff will make visual inspections of participants throughout the day for signs of potential COVID-19 illness that could include flushed cheeks, rapid breathing or difficulty breathing (without recent physical activity), fatigue, or agitation.

Will campers be required to wear a mask for the duration of camp?
Participants are not required to wear a face covering when outdoors. If participants choose to wear a mask outdoors, they should remove it when they are unable to tolerate a face covering for the physical activity.

Masks will be worn in indoor settings for unvaccinated individuals. Fully vaccinated individuals are not required to wear masks indoors.

Will PPE be provided for campers?
Campers are asked to bring their own masks to wear if required. There will be extra disposable masks available if one is needed. Hand sanitizer will also be available.

What happens if my child becomes symptomatic during camp?
If your child becomes symptomatic during camp, you will receive a phone call, at which point we ask that you pick your child up within 1 hour of the call.

Is an adult required to check-in their child every day?
A parent/guardian should accompany their camper to the outdoor check-in on the first day of programming. Please allow 15 minutes / extra time at drop-off each day for temperature checks.

Are parents/guardians allowed to watch their children during camp?
Family members are allowed to watch their children participate in outdoor or indoor programs. Indoor occupancy must not exceed the designated building occupancy limit and should be less than 250 people. It is recommended that unvaccinated spectators wear masks indoors and practice social distancing.

Is lunch provided during camp? What if the camper has a food allergy?
Individually packaged lunches will be prepared daily by Union College Dining Services. Accommodations will be made for campers with food allergies. Meals will be eaten outside when weather permits and indoor space will be provided during inclement weather.

Will activities be limited in sports camps?
Campers will be able to engage in full scrimmages/games in all sports.

What should campers bring to camp?
Campers should bring their own gear needed for their sport, along with a mask, and their own water bottle that has their name clearly printed on it.
