David Dagostino Jr. was named the Head Baseball Coach at Union College, Director of Athletics Jim McLaughlin announced on November 26. Dagostino, a 1995 graduate of Union with degrees in psychology and modern languages, returns to the campus after serving as the recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for the West Virginia University women’s basketball team, while also the Chief Executive Officer of LLC Sports Marketing, Consulting, Clinics.
“I am pleased that Dave will be returning to the Union College campus in the role of our Head Baseball Coach,” commented McLaughlin. “His enthusiasm and respect for Union was evident during his time here as a student-athlete, and he brings those attributes to the student-athletes of our baseball program today. Dave has gained valuable experience in collegiate coaching at different levels, and his knowledge for the game and passion for Union provide us with the right fit as he takes over this program.”

Dagostino, who once hit safely in 30 straight games, lettered for four years on the Dutchmen baseball team from 1991-95. He was selected captain and the team’s Most Valuable Player. He was named a Division III all-star and was given the Fred Bruhn award for leadership and dedication. Dagostino also captained the men’s basketball team and was awarded the Paul Rieschick Award for outstanding achievement in basketball.
After graduation, Dagostino played baseball professionally for the Rhode Island Tigersharks of the Northeast League in 1996. He began his coaching career as an assistant coach for Mohonasen High School in 1995-96. From 1996-99 he was an assistant coach for Union’s baseball and women’s basketball teams. In 1998, Dagostino earned his master’s degree from the University at Albany.
From 1999-2000, he was a private hitting and fielding instructor for Hayner Sports Barn located in Halfmoon, NY. During that time Dagostino also became an assistant women’s basketball coach at the College of St. Rose.
His career took him to Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. He served as the assistant women’s basketball coach from 2000-03 and later, the head coach from 2003-2006. During his time as the head coach, Dagostino led Jacksonville State to three straight postseason appearances.
From 2006-07 he served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at the University of Cincinnati and assumed the same role for the Mountaineers from 2007-08.
