Dave Riggi finished his 27th year as a member of the Union College track & field program as a coach and student-athlete in 2020-21. He spent 11 years as head coach of the women's track & field program and 10 years as leading the men's track & field program before stepping down before the 2018-19 season.
Prior to becoming head coach, Riggi served as an assistant coach from 1998-2004 before becoming the associate head coach and then the head women's coach. Riggi also served as head coach of both the men's and women's cross country programs from 2002-2009.
At Union, Riggi coached eight All-Americans, sixteen NCAA qualifers, and numerous League and Conference Champions as well as 35 school records and countless personal bests. Among Riggi's top performers were Sean Washington '05 and Allie Cuozzo '10. Washington was a 5 time national qualifer and a three time All-American in the 55 and 100 meter events. Cuozzo has qualified for nationals in her first two years at Union and has brought All-American honors home in the 800 meters on both occasions. Cuozzo was second in the nation at that event in 2008.
Riggi graduated from Union in 1997 with a bachelor of science in applied mathematics and economics, earned varsity letters in both indoor and outdoor track and was a two-time captain. At the time of his graduation, he held seven Union track records, four individual marks and three as a member of relay teams. One of the top sprinters in the state, Riggi was nationally ranked and was the 200-meter New York State Champion in 1996.
