Pete Brown '83

One of the longest tenured coaches in school history, Pete Brown '83 completed his 36th season as an assistant coach with the Union College football team in 2023. Brown primarily serves as the team's linebackers coach and has spent time as defensive coordinator as well.

Brown has served his alma mater in many capacities during his four decades on campus as a student and staff member, in addition to his time on the football sideline. He spent 13 seasons as the head softball coach at Union from 1997-09, posting a 307-111-2 (.733) record that ranks fourth all-time in coaching wins for any sport at Union. In addition to winning five conference Coach of the Year honors, he led the team to its first UCAA Tournament title in 1999 and the only four NCAA Tournament appearances in school history from 2003-06. Entering the 2023 season, he ranks 17th in Division III softball history in career winning percentage and 42nd in all divisions of NCAA softball. Brown also spent five years as the head coach of the Union men’s lacrosse team from 1993-97 as well as one year at the helm of the men's tennis team in 1990.

After finishing his career on the gridiron at Union, Brown coached at his alma mater for four years. He moved on to serve first as the offensive coordinator & quarterback coach at St. Lawrence University, and then as the offensive line coach at Trinity (Conn.) College, where he earned his master’s degree before returning to Union.

His daughter, Christy, was a four-year swimmer at Union from 2013-17 and his son, Packy, played both football and lacrosse at Union for four years from 2015-19.
