John Houghton

John Houghton enters his fifth year as Head Coach for Men's and Women's Cross Country teams at Union College.

The 2013 cross country season was highlighted by a first place finish for both the men and the women at the Mount Saint Mary's Invitational on October 5. Houghton also led the Dutchmen to a sixth place finish at the Liberty League Championships. 

In 2012 Hoghton guided Jesse Coull to the Union College Freshman Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Freshman Athletic Prize after he posted the fastest time in 14 years (26:07) and placed first for Union in every race duirng the 2012 season. 

The 2010 and 2011 cross country seasons were highlighted by a 1st place finish by the men's team and a 2nd place finish  by the women's team at Mount Saint Mary's Invitational.

Prior to becoming head coach, Houghton served as the Assistant Coach for Cross Country from 2002-09. 

Houghton graduated from Union in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in industrial economics with a minor in computer science, and also earned a MBA from Union in 2003.

While at Union Houghton earned eight varsity letters for cross country, indoor, and outdoor track. Houghton qualified for several state and regional championships, and his dedicated work ethic and positive attitude made him a key team member.
