Jordan Stevens was named the Head Softball Coach at Union College on October 29, 2009.
Stevens spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach with the University of Rhode Island and has also served as the assistant coach at Niagara University.
"Jordan Stevens has done an excellent job with the softball programs at the University of Rhode Island and Niagara," said McLaughlin. "His wealth of knowledge in all aspects of the sport, including his success in recruiting, will provide our softball student-athletes with an outstanding individual to lead them now and in the future. Most importantly, Jordan's emphasis on the academic achievements of the student-athlete makes him a perfect choice to serve our softball program at Union."
During his time at Rhode Island, Stevens was responsible for player development and also served as the pitching coach. He decreased the team's earned run average by 1.72 runs and reduced the opponent batting average by 40 points. Other experiences included recruitment, academic advisement and camp coordination.
While at Niagara, Stevens coached NU's Felicia Coffey and Kristin Kill to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Co-Player and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively. In addition, Stevens helped the Purple Eagles set a school record for overall and conference victories in 2008 as the team finished with a 27-21 overall mark and a 13-3 league record. During his time at Niagara, Stevens was directly responsible for player development and individual hitting instruction.
Prior to his stint at Niagara, Stevens served as the head coach for the varsity softball team at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, Ohio, from 2004-06. Notre Dame won two state sectional championships (2005 and 2006). In 2004 and 2005, Stevens guided the team to back-to-back conference championships and was a two-time coach of the year in both seasons. Following the 2005 season, Stevens was honored as the Northwest Ohio Division I Coach of the Year. He also served as the Northwest Ohio Division I All-Star Coach in 2005. At the end of his tenure at Notre Dame, Stevens had coached 10 all-district, 17 all-league and two all-state athletes.
