Maggie Davenport completed her second season as an assistant coach with the Union men's and women's swimming and diving teams in 2023-24.
Under Davenport's guidance, the men's program has broken three school records and recorded 10 top-10 program times. On the women's side, five additions have been made to the top-10 program times. In 2023-24, senior Matt Kevin shattered three school records, a pool record, and a Liberty League meet record in 2023-24. The men's program started the season with a 4-0 record, the best start since 1966, while the women also went 4-0 to start the season, the first time since 2006-07. In the 2024 Liberty League Championship, the Union men finished in sixth with 561.5 points and the women finished in seventh with 558 points. Outside of the pool, both teams have earned CSCAA Scholar All-America Team status in the last two seasons.
In her first year coaching the team, Davenport guided the men's team to a fifth place finish at the Liberty League Championship with 732 points and the women's team to a seventh place finish with 483 points. Junior Matt Kenvin broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke and earned two All-Liberty League honors, the first Union swimmer to earn that recognition since the 2018-19 season.
Davenport comes to Schenectady after serving as an assistant coach at SUNY New Paltz for the 2021-22 season. While there, Davenport helped guide the men’s team to a third-place finish and the women’s team to a fourth-place finish in the conference championship. A combined 10 relay teams and 41 individual new top-25 program times were set during her tenure. Davenport was also responsible for creating and leading the strength and conditioning program for both teams.
The Kingston, N.Y. native joined the coaching ranks in 2016 as an assistant coach at DUSO Swim League, planning practices for the summer swim league. After spending a year volunteering with non-profits through the Franciscan Volunteer Ministry in Durham, N.C., Davenport worked with the Kingston YMCA Hurricanes as an assistant coach.
The 2019 graduate of Siena College was a four-year swimmer for the Saints and served as team captain as a senior. Davenport was part of Siena’s first ever ECAC Championship team in 2015, anchoring both the 400-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay to top-three finishes.
