Amy Loya ’14 finished her eighth season as a volunteer assistant coach with the Union College women's basketball team in 2024-25.  In addition to working with the basketball program, Loya also spent four years as a visiting Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Union from 2020-24.

Loya was a four-year member of the women's basketball team at Union from 2010-14, serving as team captain in her senior season and graduating as one of the best defensive players in program history.   

As a senior, Loya was one of only 10 women’s college basketball players in the country recognized with the WBCA “Good Works” award.  The award is presented by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association to the 10 women’s college basketball players regarded as the most outstanding community service practitioners in the country.  That same year, Loya was the first student-athlete in 50 years to receive Union College’s Bailey Prize, an award given to the student “deemed to have rendered the greatest service to the College.”

Loya graduated from Union in 2014 with a degree in bioengineering and biomedical engineering and earned her doctorate from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2020.
