Andrew Sayles begins his first season as an assistant men’s and women’s rowing coach and recruiting coordinator at Union in 2026-27.
 
Sayles joined Union with extensive rowing coaching experience at the high school, club and collegiate levels. Most recently, he served as director of rowing and head coach at Burnt Hills Rowing Association from 2020 to 2025, where he facilitated roster growth, coached 10 state championship crews, and guided the program to its first national championship in May 2024. The program also recorded multiple top-15 finishes at national championships.

Previously, he served as men’s sweeps head coach at Riverside Boat Club, novice and U17 head coach at Community Rowing Inc., and assistant men’s rowing coach at Boston College. At Boston College, he helped the team win the points trophy at the New England Championship and earn multiple medals at the National Invitational Rowing Championships.

Sayles also held coaching positions at Community Rowing Inc., Albany Rowing Center and Marist College, where he began his collegiate coaching career in 2012.

Sayles holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marist and a USRowing Level Two certification. He was the stroke seat of the Marist freshmen during the 2008-09 season and then a three-year Varsity 8+ oarsman, captaining the team as a senior. He was a part of three consecutive MAAC championships, four straight President's Cups and won a NYS Championship in 2010.  Sayles was nominated for Marist's Sportsman of the Year in 2012.
