Katie Rich returns for her 11th season as an assistant coach with the Union College field hockey team in 2025.
Rich, along with head coach Kelly Harchetts and assistant coach Alicia Aragosa, were honored as the Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024 after leading the Garnet Chargers had one of the best seasons in program history, posting a 14-6 record and tying for first place in the Liberty League with a 6-1 mark, the program's highest-ever conference finish. The team's 14 regular-season victories are tied for second-most ever in a season in program history and the six conference wins earned the team a home Liberty League Tournament game for the first time in program history.Â
In addition to the staff's honor, sophomore Maddie Greco was named the program's first-ever Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year to lead four All-Conference selections, the most for the program since 2010 and tied for the second-most ever in a season. In addition, three Garnet Chargers - Greco and juniors Megan Dorsey and Sophie Brady - were named to the NFHCA All-Region teams, with Brady and Greco becoming the first pair of first-team teammates in program history.
Rich, Harchetts and Aragosa were tabbed as the Liberty League Co-Coaching Staff of the Year in 2023 after leading Union to an 11-8 record (4-3 Liberty League) and the program's first conference tournament berth since 2010. The team reached the 11-win plateau for the second straight season in 2023, only the third time in program history that has been achieved, while the 11 wins are tied for fourth-most in a season in program history and the squad's four conference victories are tied for the most ever in a regular season. Individually, first-year Maddie Greco was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Year to lead three All-Conference selections, and four different players earned conference Rookie of the Week accolades during the season.
Rich is a 2013 graduate of New England College, where she competed in both field hockey and track for the Pilgrims. As a senior, she scored 10 goals with three assists to earn NFHCA All-New England East Region honors as well as first-team All-North Atlantic Conference recognition and the team's Pilgrim Award for team MVP. She captained the team and earned All-NAC first-team honors in both of her final two years with the team. As part of the track program, Katie set two school records in the 800m and 1500m and also earned the track team's PIlgrim Award as well.
Off the field, Rich was a two-time NFHCA D-III National Academic Squad honoree and graduated from New England with honors.Â
