Sophomore Kate DeSorrento scored a team-high 13 points while classmates Courtney Shepard and Nicole Cerniglia each connected for 11 makers as the Union College women's basketball team opened its 2003-04 season with a convincing 76-57 victory over Smith College.

The Dutchwomen, who lost one non-starter off of last year's record-breaking 22-5 team, held a 41-20 advantage at the half.

Junior forward Katlyn Cunningham was the other double digit scorer for the Dutchwomen as she finished with 11 points. Union enjoyed a slim 40-36 rebounding advantage with juniors Melissa Marra and Emily Scott each pulling down six boards.
