Schenectady , N.Y. ( December 12, 2003 ) - - The University of Maine Black Bears ( 6-7-3 ) defeated the Union College Dutchwomen 8-1 at Messa Rink tonight in non-league action. The loss drops the Dutchwomen to 3-9-1 on the season. Seven different players found the back of the net for the Black Bears, led by freshman Sonia Corriveau's ( Rouyn , Quebec ) sixth and seventh goals of the season.

Freshman goaltender Lauren Carlson ( 1-6-0 ) took the loss for the Dutchwomen, making 58 saves as the Black Bears out shot the Dutchwomen 66-11 in the game. Union 's lone goal was scored by junior captain Courtney Riepenhoff ( Skillman , NJ ), her third of the season. Freshmen Elise Nichols ( Pittsfield , MA ) and Carli McNeil ( Burlington , WI ) picked up their fifth and third assists respectively on the goal. Sophomore Amy Rodgers ( Dartmouth , Nova Scotia ) made nine saves and picked up the victory for the Black Bears in her first appearance of the season. Freshman Rachel Gettings ( Watervliet , NY ) played the final 10 minutes for Maine , making one save in her first collegiate appearance.

The Dutchwomen and Black Bears will resume their weekend series Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Messa Rink.
