Box ScoreMadison , WI - The UMass-Lowell River Hawks (8-8-3) rallied from a 3-1 deficit entering the third period to defeat the Union College Dutchmen 5-3 at the KOHL Center in the consolation game of the 15 th annual Badger Showdown this evening.
Sophomore left wing A.J. Palkovich (New Bellmore, NY) led the Dutchmen attack in the first period, scoring his third and fourth goals of the season less than 15 seconds apart as Union built a 2-0 lead. After a River Hawk goal cut the margin to 2-1, Union regained their two-goal lead with a power play goal by sophomore Jason Visser (Mississauga, Ontario). Down 3-1 entering the third, Lowell scored four goals, including an empty netter, to complete the comeback. Five different players scored for the River Hawks, led by freshman Cleve Kinley's (Powell River, BC) two points (1-1-2). The loss drops the Dutchmen to 7-7-3 on the season.
Sophomore goaltender Tim Roth ( Teaneck, NJ) took his first loss of the season (2-1-0) despite making 35 saves as the River Hawks out shot the Dutchmen 40-36. Sophomore Paul Mammola (Lexington, MA) made 33 saves in the win for Lowell, his second of the season.
The Dutchmen return to Messa Rink at Achilles Center to play ECAC rivals Harvard and Brown at 7:00 p.m. on January 2 and 3.
