Box ScoreSchenectady , N.Y. ( January 10, 2004 ) - - The Clarkson University Golden Knights ( 10-7-3 ) defeated the Union College Dutchwomen 5-1 at Messa Rink this afternoon in non-league action. The loss drops the Dutchwomen to 3-15-1 on the season. Sophomore Kate Allgood ( Toronto , Ontario ) scored two goals in the game after picking up her first career hat trick for the Golden Knights last night, and freshman Ashley Shaidle ( Hudson , Ohio ) notched three assists. The five goals on the weekend gives Allgood 10 for the season, while Shaidle now has eight assists.
Clarkson took a 1-0 lead after one period on Allgood's first goal of the game at 4:22. Shaidle picked up her first assist of the afternoon on the Golden Knight's power play goal along with classmate Lauren Lubrano ( Ridgefield , Connecticut ). Clarkson added three more goals in the second period to take a commanding 4-0 lead into the game's second intermission.
Union freshman Meghan O'Connor ( Portsmouth , Rhode Island ) scored her fifth goal of the season at 4:22 of the third to trim the Golden Knight lead to 4-1, but it was not enough as Clarkson tightened its defense and added an insurance goal at 18:18 of the third for the final margin. Freshmen Kelly Lannan ( Winchester , Massachusetts ) and Brittany Stewart ( Ottawa , Ontario ) picked up their seventh and third assists respectively on the Union goal.
Freshman goaltender Mandy Hanson ( Brainerd , Massachusetts ) made 36 saves in the loss for Union as the Golden Knights out shot the Dutchwomen 41-21 in the game. Hanson is now 1-5 on the season. Clarkson freshman Jessica Finley ( Arvada , Colorado ) made 20 saves and picked up her first collegiate victory, she is now 1-0.
The Dutchwomen will return to action at Messa Rink on Thursday, January 15 at 7:00 pm versus Boston College.
