Schenectady, NY (January 24, 2004) The Yale Bulldogs (7-7-3, 4-3-0) defeated the Union College Dutchwomen (3-18-1, 0-6-0) for the second time in as many days by a 5-2 final in New Haven, CT. After not being able to muster any offense last night, the Dutchwomen tied the game in the first period off sophomore Kate Gustafsons fourth goal of the season, coming unassisted at the 11:03 mark. Yale answered back as Kristin Savard, who had four goals in the two game series, scored two goals to put the Bulldogs ahead 4-1. Halfway through the second period the Dutchwomen answered back as freshman Megan OConnor scored her sixth goal of the season, assisted by freshman line mate Elise Nichols, who leads the team with 18 points. Yale would score again in the third period to close out the 5-2 win. Freshman Lauren Carlson made her first start in net since December 31st, making 49 saves and being voted the third star of the game. Carlson drops to 1-9-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs started a new goalie for the second game in a row, as Carrie Horbatuk recorded her first win making 11 saves.
