Burlington, VT - The Dutchmen fell to the Vermont Catamounts by the score of 3-1 at sold out Gutterson Field House in Burlington, Vermont. The Catamounts (4-17-3, 2-11-0) struck first on the power play, as junior Scott Mifsud (Burlington, Ont.) beat sophomore Kris Mayotte (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) just a minute into the game for a 1-0 lead. Union (8-13-4, 2-9-2) evened things mid-way through the third period on a goal by junior captain Joel Beal (Brantford, Ont.), his sixth goal of the season. Union's lead was short lived as the Cats struck back just 12 seconds later on a goal be junior Tim Plant (Barre, VT). Plant intercepted a Union clearing pass in front of Mayotte and scored his sixth goal of the season to put Vermont up 2-1. The Dutchmen pulled Mayotte with just under two minutes to play in hopes of tying the game. Vermont senior Jeff Miles (Pickering, Ont.) put the game away with an empty netter to seal the 3-1 victory. Mayotte made 13 saves on the night and fell to 5-12-4 on the season. Cat's goalie Travis Russell (Essex Junction, VT) stopped 21 Union shots for Vermont. The Dutchmen out shot Vermont 22-16 in the game.
